We’ve talked about doing this for a long time. Starting a place where we could share the adventures, places and experiences that have become such a big part of our lives. Eventually, we decided to stop talking about it and just go for it.

Welcome to Off Grid Enthusiasts.

We’re Jared & Ang, and this is our place to share what happens when we get away from the everyday routine and spend more time doing what we love most—being outside, exploring new places and seeing what’s around the next corner.

For us, that can mean taking the boat up the British Columbia coast for a few weeks, heading to the cabin, hunting, fishing, pulling crab and prawn traps, camping somewhere remote, cooking what we catch or harvest, exploring a backroad or simply finding a place we’ve never been before.

Sometimes we know exactly where we’re going. Other times, not so much. And those often turn into the best adventures.

Why Off Grid Enthusiasts?

When people hear “off grid,” they sometimes picture completely disappearing into the wilderness and living without electricity, running water or cell service. That’s not exactly what it means to us.

For us, being off grid is more about getting away from the noise for a while. It’s dropping anchor in a quiet bay where there’s nobody else around. It’s waking up at the cabin with nowhere you need to be. It’s catching dinner instead of buying it. It’s sitting around a fire with good friends. It’s watching the dogs run down a beach. It’s exploring somewhere new without knowing exactly what you’re going to find.

And yes, sometimes it means having absolutely no cell service—which might actually be one of the best parts.

It Won’t Always Go According to Plan

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from spending a lot of time outdoors and on the water, it’s that things rarely go exactly as planned.

Boats break. Weather changes. Equipment fails. The anchorage you planned on using suddenly doesn’t look so great. Something that should take 20 minutes somehow takes five hours. And occasionally we make decisions that seemed considerably better at the time. 😂

We want to share those parts too.

There are already plenty of places online showing perfectly edited sunsets and flawless vacations. We love the beautiful moments—and there will definitely be plenty of those here—but Off Grid Enthusiasts isn’t going to be just the highlight reel.

We want to share the journey that happens in between. The problems. The solutions. The lessons learned. The people who help you along the way. And the moments that weren’t part of the plan but somehow become the stories you tell for years afterward.

What You’ll Find Here

A lot of our adventures happen right here in British Columbia, particularly along the incredible BC coast, but we’re not limiting ourselves to one place—or even one kind of adventure.

You can expect to see plenty of:

⚓ Boating & Coastal Adventures

Remote anchorages, islands, coastal communities, hidden beaches and multi-day boating trips throughout British Columbia and beyond. We’ll share the destinations, but we’ll also share what it actually takes to get there.

🏡 Cabin & Off-Grid Life

Cabin projects, quiet weekends, outdoor cooking, campfires and everything we love about slowing life down for a little while.

🦌 Hunting

Time in the backcountry, preparing for hunts, the experiences that come with them and our connection to the food we harvest.

🎣 Fishing, Crabbing & Prawning

From dropping lines and pulling traps to figuring out what we’re going to make for dinner afterward.

🔥 Cooking What We Catch & Harvest

Food is a huge part of our adventures. Fresh seafood, wild game, meals at the cabin, cooking outside and sharing great food with great people will definitely make regular appearances.

🌲 Exploring

Hiking, camping, remote beaches, backroads, hidden places and whatever else looks interesting enough to make us wonder: “What’s over there?”

🐕 Cali & Potato

Of course, plenty of our adventures also involve our dogs. Sometimes they make the trip better. Sometimes they make it considerably more complicated. Usually both.

More Than Just the Destination

The places we visit are a big part of Off Grid Enthusiasts, but ultimately this isn’t just a travel blog.

It’s about the experience of getting there. It’s about spending time with people we care about. Learning something new. Solving problems when things go wrong. Eating ridiculously good food in places where there isn’t a restaurant for miles. Finding somewhere incredible that we’d never heard of before.

And remembering that some of the best days don’t require much more than good company, a little adventure and somewhere beautiful to explore.

This Is Just the Beginning

We have a lot we want to share. Some adventures will happen by boat. Others will take us into the mountains, down backroads, to the cabin or eventually much farther from home.

We’ll share our favourite destinations, stories, photos, videos, gear, lessons learned and probably a few mistakes that might save somebody else from making the same ones.

Most importantly, we want this to be a place that encourages people to get outside and go do something.

You don’t need to disappear into the wilderness for a month. Sometimes adventure is just choosing a road you haven’t driven before, launching the boat somewhere new or spending a weekend somewhere without an itinerary.

Life moves pretty quickly. We want to make sure we’re actually out there living it.

So that’s what Off Grid Enthusiasts is about. Spending more time outside. Exploring new places. Living a little simpler. Making memories with good people. And getting a little farther off the beaten path.

We don’t know exactly where this is going to take us. And that’s kind of the point.
